TANGRAM.. gioco o esercizio per la mente?

Oggi voglio proporre un argomento un po' insolito.. al di là dei "soliti" handmade, artigianato o home decor.

Tempo fa mi capitato di imbattermi in questo "gioco" (se così lo vogliamo chiamare) e devo dire che è stata una piacevole scoperta!

Ritengo che la capacità di giocare, lasciarsi andare e creare in libertà, sia un ingrediente unico ed insostituibile per ogni artista, e il Tangram può essere molto utile per dare nuova linfa alla vostra creatività

Il tangram, detto anche QUADRATO DELLA SAGGEZZA o anche 7 PIETRE DELLA SAGGEZZA, è noto come gioco per bambini, ma nella sua sorprendente semplicità, custodisce tantissimi benefici e novità nascoste. 

E' un rompicapo di origine cinese. 

È costituito da sette tavolette del medesimo materiale e del medesimo colore (chiamati TAN) che sono disposti inizialmente a formare un quadrato: 5 triangoli (2 grandi, 1 medio, 2 piccoli), 1 quadrato, 1 parallelogramma


Realizzarlo è semplice: prendete un cartoncino monocolore a vostra scelta e scaricate lo schema che trovate qui sopra. Stampatelo sul cartoncino e tagliate lungo le linee.

Lo scopo del gioco è di formare figure di senso compiuto.

Le regole sono molto semplici: usare tutti e 7 i pezzi nel comporre la figura finale; non sovrapporre nessun pezzo. Per il resto, basta solo scatenare la propria creatività, non serve seguire nessuno schema, si può creare qualsiasi forma, basta che piaccia a noi e ci esprima qualcosa.

L'uso del Tangram allena la concentrazione, la logica, la creatività e la fantasia per riconoscere che figure diverse  si possano creare. Si ritiene che l’abilità acquisita in questo gioco porti saggezza e TALENTO.

1. What is your name? 

My name is Sofie Skein.

I have a shop on Etsy called Bonjour Poupette! where I sell one-of-a-kind, miniature animal people and other magical creatures.

2. Please tell us a little about your background
I'm an artist from the Pacific Northwest, where I was born and raised.

I have a deep love for the natural world, which inspired me to complete a professional degree in Landscape Architecture.

I worked for a number of years in that creative profession before deciding to pursue my own artwork full-time. Besides the Etsy shop I am a painter and illustrator.

3. When did you become interested in creating art?
My mother, who is a veterinarian by profession, is also a gifted artist. 

She would draw and sculpt with me when I was a small child.

I took a few art classes at University, but I am mostly self-taught.

4. How did you learn your techniques?
 I work with a polymer compound to create my figurines. I've been making at least one every day for the past few years and have learned primarily from practice and experimentation.

I really enjoy figuring out how to make things on my own. My work is continuously evolving. 

5. What inspires you? 
 My figurines are inspired by a surrealist sense of humor and a great love for fairy tales. I grew up surrounded by animals and they have always been intrinsic to my world - as family members, friends and teachers.

6. Please describe your creative process.  With my figurines, I usually begin with a specific animal in mind.

If it is one that I haven't made before I will spend hours looking at pictures and making sketches before I begin. My figurines are not intended to be realistic, but it is very important to me to capture an essential quality of the particular animal. Occasionally, I simply begin with an exciting color of clay and begin sculpting with nothing in mind and let my hands create whatever needs to be created.

7. What do you find most rewarding in this work?  I like working with miniatures because it is very satisfying to be able to complete a piece and make it available for sale by the end of the day.

However, the most rewarding part of this work is seeing the delight that the figurines bring to my customers.

8. What is the best advice you have received?
 Do something creative every day, whether it is drawing, writing, cooking or playing with a child or pet. It is more difficult than it sounds because our culture makes it easy to become a spectator of life.

Creative activity must be prioritized, like exercise, nutritious meals and quality time with the ones you love.

9. What is your best advice to emerging artists?   Have reverence for your creative work. Not all artwork is meant for the marketplace, but that doesn't make it any less meaningful. When you find a medium you love, make a commitment and use it every day. You will be amazed how skilled you will become over time just by playing around with materials. Even fifteen minutes a day can make a huge difference over time.


10. What would you like buyers to know about you and your artwork?  Every figurine has it's own personality that emerges as I work, which truly makes them one-of-a-kind.

There is something very tender and sweet about the poupettes that is an expression of my love and care for all living things.

Today I want to present you the interview made ​​to Dafni.

1. What's your name? (unless you want to go by your shop name)

My name is Dafni....

2. Please tell us a little about your background (brief summary of where you've lived, studied, and worked)

I was born in Athens, Greece. 

I have studied graphic design and illustration, and worked in various companies , mostly as a graphic designer. 

Now I moved to Bahrain and I plan to stay for about a year.

3. When did you become interested in creating art?

Ever since I was born I think. 

I always liked to paint and create things with my hands. 

I took some metal smithing lessons some years ago and since then I think I found the perfect thing for me.

4. How did you learn your techniques?

As I said I took some lessons, where I learned the basics. And from there I experimented a lot with different materials, some worked and some didn't. 

I also look on the web for tutorials and new techniques. It's a big free school!

5. What inspires you? 

I get inspired by everything natural I see around me. Animals, plants, the weather.. 

I also like fairytales and children's books so the fantasy land is also an inspiration for me.

6. Please describe your creative process.

First I make lots and lots of sketches until I'm satisfied with the final design. Then I hand cut the base material, could be plexiglass or wood or metal, and then I put the colors. 

7. What do you find most rewarding in this work?

Creativity is the cure for all illness! 

Whenever I feel down I now there is this thing that makes me feel good and alive. When my items are sold it of course feels even better.

8. What is the best advice you have received?

Believe in your self and never stop doing what makes you happy.

9. What is your best advice to emerging artists? 

Once again… Believe in your self and never stop doing what makes you happy.

10. What would you like buyers to know about you and your artwork?

That every item since is handmade is unique and made with lots of love.
